How to detect that the GPRS is active or a phone call is active ?

How do I programatically detect that the GPRS or CALL or SMS is active and using the GSM channels ???

Can kill a on-going gprs connection ?
I am actually tracking the gsm_location which only works when the GSM channels are free... and then I have to send them over the GPRS.. so.. I want the GPRS to die before the gsm_location is called !!

Can you suggest a work around if that is not possible ?

There are a couple of old Nokia documents listing AT commands for GSM/WCDMA phones and for CDMA phones. However, as stated, the documents are old, and not accurate as far as what is supported today, and phone model specific differences.
