I've recently been asked to write a Symbian Application. I have previously done S60 app development, but I'm a couple of years out of date now. Now I've returned to Symbian, I see there are a lot more options for app development such as Qt, Qml and Symbian^3 development.

So my question is, which development framework is recommended for application development? I'm looking to produce an 'iPhone style' fluid application on a touch device. Target devices have not been specified and I'm expecting the app to access a database and communicate with a server.

In your opinions, which framework would you use and why?

Qt SDK 1.1 should be all you need. You can target all Symbian touch devices (including Symbian^1) with modern UI, develop most of it on a very fast simulator, and there oodles of examples that will cover your use cases along with API docs.

Thanks for the reply. Can you think of any instances where you would develop for S60 5th Ed, as opposed to Qt? Are there any major limitations to Qt?

From what I have read so far, I think Qt is the way to go, I just want to make doubley sure before I start!

There are things for which there does not exist Qt APIs, but for which there are Symbian C++ APIs. Whether you need such Symbian C++ APIs depends on what kind of an app you're writing.
