Playing ringtone while outgoing call is active

Hi all,

for our custom pbx solution we need to make phone look like ringing while it is
doing outgoung call instead.

1) Phone will dial pbx.
2) When pbx will answer the call, it is the signal for phone to start ringing
3) User press either green or red key and these are transferred to the pbx to connect or hangup the call

We don't need to play to the uplink, but to make ringing sound only while outgoing call is active.

Would this be possible to do with VoIP Audio Services API?

Target device is Nokia E52.

As you dont need to pay to the uplink, you can use any Audio API. Also you could check Ovi store, it already has at least one application that does this use case.

I have tried with VAS CRingTonePlayer and it returns KErrOverflow when call is active, even when call is on hold. When call is inactive, it does play the ringtone.
I have also tried native phone application for ringtone selection, and it also doesn't play ringtone preview when call is active or on hold.

So could it be assumed phone application has some high priority and reserves audio hw for itself?

You could try something simpler, like CMdaAudioPlayerUtility.

Unfortunatelly it is also not working, CMdaAudioPlayerUtility fails with error -21 when call is active or on hold.

Do you think that submitting technical support request could help us with finding a solution?

I do remember succeeding on playing audio when there is outgoing call or call that has been answered without any problems, though I have not tried it with E52 nor have I tried it in past couple of years, still though I would consider that it should indeed work. Then agasin if you have really tested that the native audio player does not work on that situation either, then I would suspect that something has changed since I last tested it, and propably even the paid technical support could not help you on this particular case.
