Is there any way that we can change the Java apps default installation folder ?

Hi all,

I have developed an application for Nokia devices using J2ME. When I installed the app on devices , the app will get into either "Applications" folder or "Games" folder.

An user of our app reported that the app is not usable as it is burried in "Games" folder on his Nokia C3-01 device,
So Could you please let me know if there is any alternative taht we can change the default installation path for the Java apps. or Can we create a shortcut or move the app to different folder of our wish after installation.

Hello Haripriya,

yes, that can be achieved by using the following in the JAD file:

Nokia-MIDlet-Save-Location: Root

That places the MIDlet into the root folder i.e. just above the Application and Games folders.

I have installed the app by adding teh attribute you specified.The path is not changing in any device.I have tested in S40 devices

now that is strange. That used to work as defined by the documentation.

You specified that you used Nokia C3-01 for testing. Is that the one which fails? Which other Series 40 devices are you using for testing?

Hi Raj,

I have tested in Nokia 5130 and C1-01 as well. Im using PC suite method of installation. Will it makes any difference ? Do I need to use OTA method ?

Hello Haripriya,

basically this JAD attribute can be used when downloading the application via OTA.

I am yet to verify whether there are other requirements involved, including whether or not application signing is required for using the JAD attribute. I will get back to you as soon as possible on this.
