Nokia Java SDK 1.1 for S40, S60, Symbian^3?

Hello,

Have developed for S60 3rd Edition, Symbian^1 and Symbian^3 devices using Qt (both Qt SDK and Carbide + Nokia N97 SDK). Want to develop for S40 devices too, along with the previous Symbian devices, so looks like Java is the only option. So, can Nokia Java SDK 1.1 be used to develop for all these platforms? I have tried with sample programs n it does work on all of them, but wanted to know how much will the UI design differ for the S40 and Symbian platforms? How to go about the platform specific UI customization?

Looking forward to some help from all you JavaME experts, to get my engine started!

As you might know, Series 40 devcies support Java for App development where as Symbian devices mainly support multiple runtimes like Java, Qt & Web. You can read more about UI design in Nokia devices here http://www.developer.nokia.com/Design/

I am aware of that. I want to develop a single application for all these platforms now, so Java app is the only option. I wanted to how difficult or easy it is to write a generic UI code which will work fine with S40 as well as Symbian devices (S60 and Symbian^3). Would it require a lot of platform specific customization, or the SDK provides me with sufficient UI APIs in order to support all the platforms?

If you are mainly looking on portability, you can try developing in High Level UI, using Forms, List and so on. http://www.developer.nokia.com/Commu..._UI_in_Java_ME

Also you can develop your own custom framework using Low Level UI - using Canvas. Also there are several already existing UI frameworks that you can make use of. http://www.developer.nokia.com/Commu..._UI_Frameworks
