Symbian^1 and S60 5th edition are two names of a single thing.
Symbian^2 devices are/were available in the Japanese market only, I am not sure if they allow installation of any 3rd party software at all.
Symbian^3 is the real question, and while it is generally compatible with S60 5th edition (=Symbian^1), in order to see if an application really works or not, you will have to test it. If you do not have Symbian^3, Anna, Belle devices at hand, use RDA (Devices above, Remote device access). Because the compatibility is probable only, but not guaranteed, you will probably see a warning during installation. It is safe to ignore it first, later (if the application really works) you can fix via adding the necessary line to the .pkg file (http://www.developer.nokia.com/Commu...tion_SIS_files and http://www.developer.nokia.com/Commu...fication_codes)
