Conference application audio/video

Hello, I must want in my school application in J2ME - conference. It must have this features:

1. live streaming voice between two or more person
2. live streaming video between two or more person
3. send short message between two or more person (chat)

I have question - point two is possible now? I am reading many old topic where somebody wrote that is not possible. Something change?

I am afraid nothing has changed for point 2, because video streaming would require progressive video recording and that is not supported on device-side. You can find more information here

Regarding point 1. Nokia's Java ME offers a high level API to handle voice communication between two devices over a packet data connection via the SIP API. Please note that the SIP API is deprecated and only supported on Symbian/S60 devices from S60 3rd Edition (initial release) up to 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2 devices. If uncertain whether your target device supports the SIP API please check the Device Specification page.

Regarding point 3. yes it should be possible to implement a chat program. You would need to consider if the communication layer would be

a) the Operator's network, so in that case you could use the Wireless Messaging API to send and receive SMSes as Maveric has already suggested

b) a bluetooth connection for chatting with users in close proximity. In that case you can get some inspiration from the btsppEcho example

or

c) data package connection. This is a bit more advanced and, you would need to use a Socket Connection on the client/device side. You would also need to have a server somewhere the clients can connect to. One suggestion is to use Jabber which is an instant messaging service based on the XMPP protocol. There are already a few J2ME clients for Jabber based on information from this page. If you need to create your own, you would need to thoroughly study the XMPP specifications
