how and where to install new RDA certificates to the phone?

Hello all,

I wanted to test a symbian app on around 10 rda devices. But out of 10, only couple of devices have valid rda certificates, on rest of them expired.

I could not find how and where to update the certificates from. I have the rda dev cert and key but how to install it to the devices?

Please let me know.

You do not install the certificate key to the device, you just need to sign your application using this certificate/key pair and then install your application (be sure that you do not sign an already signed sis file which is probable when your IDE is configured to auto sign with some developer certificate etc.)

Usually "Download dev cert for RDA devices (read more about it)" contains the certificate which includes IMEI of all the devices in the RDA.

Hi Neil,

Are you telling me that i should sign the app only with the rda dev certs that i downloaded from the rda page? Because right now what i am doing is first signing the app with developer certificate and on top of that i sign them with rda cert. But if that is the case then it should fail on all the devices which is not happening. Its installing on 1 device but failing on other 9 and when i checked the authority certificates, RDA_Cert1_publisherxxx is expired on them. That is why i was asking how to update the RDA certs on devices.

But i will definitely try your suggestion.

Hey Neil,

I tried to sign the app just with the rda dev certs but it is still behaving in the same way. Got installed on one device but failed on others.

Any other suggestion?

What is the exact error message? (Always giving as much information on what is happening helps understand your problem.)

Usually the error i get while installing the sis file over RDA devices with rda dev cert signing is regarding the use of capabilities('requested application access not granted), is it also the same issue with you? or is it the same expired cert? You can check with following things:

1) Double click on RDA.der to see its validity.
2) Check the date setting(try changing date to prior) of those RDA devices on which you install the sis file.
3) Check if the Software installation setting of those RDA devices 'online certificate check' is set to 'On' , make it as 'Off'(settings->Applications->App Manager->Software installation)

Thanks for a solid answer. Yes i am getting two error messages:
1. Requested application access not granted and
2. Unable to install on couple of them

The checklist i have mentioned is only for 'Expired Certificate' error. For the issue you stated now, you need to remove some capabilities from the mmp file(include only the basic one's, sometimes i have noticed that ReadDeviceData & WriteDeviceData also cause problems but that too on some RDA devices.)

The application uses MultimediaDD and few more but they are required to test the functionality. Does it mean that I cannot test the app if I include such capabilities? Yesterday i tried after removing this capability but it seems need to remove few more
like you mentioned. But I don't know why on RDA N95 there is no issue installing the app no matter how many times but others are giving the errors as mentioned. The beahvior is not consistent.

Ok, now i understood what you tried as mentioned in #1. Well it might be an issue of invalid RDA certs on those RDA devices & to update those, the Devcert zip should contain rda_cert.sisx which currently is missing from the package.

The RDA cert if you check on N95 is the latest one?(just to make sure the issue)

Also you can mail the issue to RDA admin: ndh.fi@nokia.com & request them to update the RDA cert zip(which currently contains only cert & key & no sisx) with that sisx which updates the certificates on RDA devices.
