I am currently working on a project that requires me to access the inbox messages of a series 40 based Nokia phone, view and select messages from a particular sender then save it to a database for further processing. I need suggestion on how I can access the inbox messages.

If you mean accessing the Inbox from a midlet running on the phone, that is not possible. However it may be possible to access the messages when the phone is connected to a PC.

You can check if this API set helps: https://www.developer.nokia.com/Reso...nectivity_API/

I managed to access the messages but the API relies on Nokia PC Suite. I am looking for an independent solution.

By independant solution, if you mean you need to access Inbox messages from an app installed in the Device, as Wizard mentioned previously, in Series 40 devices, its not possible with a Java App with public API's

There is some package "Connectivity Cable Driver" or something, which is distributable separately, but that most probably works over USB.

It is quite impossible to access default inbox message which is stored some where in message log using Java API.

But if you create your inbox message box and install that client all your user phone and independently you can tag message to database for further use. The idea may not fit for your requirement it is just option to overcome your issue.
