Customise Universal Indicator

Hi
I'd like to be able to create my own Small Indicator icon and be able to control it in the Idle mode and in my Application.

Is there a public API to do this ? If not, will one be availbale soon?
Can I control the existing indicator icons ?

I would appreciate any code examples. I realise the class CAknIndicatorContainer is somehow used but do not know how to go about it.
