RealPlayer Delays via RTSP

I have been testing now with the following phones: Nokia 6600, 3650, 7650 and Siemens SX1(Symbian)

The only phone that seems to undestand RTSP links id the Nokia 6600.
The others only supports linking via HTTP://
And when using HTTP to link to our RM files there is very long delay befores the phones starts to play the RM file.
A http link could look like this: http://mystreamserver.com:8080/ramgen/hello.rm

I use WML on all phones.

Does anyone have success with RTSP links to for example Nokia 3650 ???

That a RSTP:// link works fine if it arrives as a wappush or ota bookmark, etc.

Please test it by having a link in a WML or xHTML page....

Did you test by giving the url using ramgen and http instead of directly giving the rtsp url in the xhtml or wml page ? If tested, does it give long delays ?

Yes, i have tested both with RTSP linking on port 554, and i used HTTP linking /ramgen.

I have tried just about anything.
All symbian phones i tried has these loooong delays when using HTTP linking.
Only the N6600 works when linking via RTSP://

Probably full buffering of all the video data is taking place prior to
playing. I would like to hear from a nokia expert.

Hi,

The reason for the long delay using HTTP is that Series 60 phones are not supporting HTTP streaming. I.e. if you use HTTP to link to your RealMedia file it's downloaded to the phone using normal HTTP download and after download is ready the clip starts to play.

So http urls with ramgen and metafiles can't be used ? Http urls
with ramgens should work because the helix server convert the http url with ramgen to the correct rtsp url and send back to the realone player.This is how it is for a web browser . Is it different for a wap browser ?

Hi,

I don't know what is the exact output send back to the terminal when using Ramgen. I ran some test with 3650 and using a link to ram-file, including rtsp link to the actual content, in wml-page it works fine. Straight rtsp links from wml-page don't work in 3650.

If you made it work with a link to a RAM file, please show me the source od the RAM file, and please show me the MIMEtype for .RAM.

Were the RAM file on the same server as your HELIX-server, or was it on another webserver ?

Ram-file just includes the rtsp-link to the file:
rtsp://myserver:port/whatever.rm

MIME for the ram is audio/x-pn-realaudio.

My ram-file was on a webserver pointing to a file in streaming server. And also using Ramgen should work in 3650.

I did set it up as you describe, but the N6600 returns the error: "Services:
Unknown Answer."

i have set the mimetype up right on the webserver etc. etc.

I tested with the Siemens SX1 which worked fine.
The 6600 still returns the error.
