Question about JAVA and phone's "engineering mode".

Hi everyone.

I have quite specific question about possibility to create a midlet
that "fetches" info from phone's internals in so called "engineering
mode" - it basicly contains network info, network parameters like
cell ID, distance from station, connection quality and so on.

Our engineers need such application when doing their on-field
maintenance tasks.

Are there any API for that purpose ? Does the standard API
allow execute AT commands ?

Java won't help you too much. There are no standard ways to access all that information, or to execute AT commands.
There are a few phones (no Nokias that I know of, I've seen it on Motorola iDEN), that have extension APIs to allow you to get that information.

No. Actually, the phone's selection would be based on
availability of such extension API. Do you know makes,
phone models that have such API ?

Not any particular model, but AFAIK the Motorola iDEN models have the most support for this. You can check the specifics on their developer portal.
