SMS over GPRS, using Nokia 6610

I have a nokia 6610. Is it true that it supports sms over gprs?

if yes, then can anyone tell me how the same can be achieved and where can i get more details on how this can be done!

Hi!

All current phones can handle SMS over GPRS functionality. It's just a bearer for SMS to be sent to SMSC. There is no end user benefits on this technology. It's meant for operators to reduce traffic in signaling layer in their networks.

This option can be found from SMS settings in the device.

Hi, Thanks for your reply. I am in Singapore, using starhub. but they say they do not support it.

If I need to use sms over gprs what are the pre requisites from the Operators end?

Can I get to read something on any web. Is there a website that has more information about it

I have no such a deep knowledge about the network infrastructure and signaling in core network area, so I have no answer for you.

Thechnical specification about SMS delivery can be found from 3GPP specification CRs: 24.011.
