Presence and instant messaging client application

Hi all,
I would like to test out some IMPS server application using some phones but unfortunately not all my phones have an in-built instant messaging or presence application. If any one happens to know of any free or demo version that can be downloaded to a client device (either Java or Symbian) i would highly appreciate.
Other alternatives, ideas and suggestions are very welcome.
