    Good morning!

I've installed Python on my 6630 (1.1.6 for 2nd ed) and it runs most of the example applications just fine. However, I've got problems with rssreader.

rssreader will startup fine, also display the dummy feed; however, when I tell it to update e.g. Slashdot, it will just display "(loading)" in front of the rss feeds, but it will not try to connect (no message asking if I allow the connection to the internet, no change in the connection icon) and it will stay this way forever.

Other applications can connect to the internet just fine (e.g. gmap.py from this forum, or the weather_info.py)

Thanx for any infos & pointers,
    Axel

Did you remember to install dumbfeedparser.py as a library?

Thanx for the hint -- this friendly RTFM brought me to the Getting Started guide... My expectation was, that I could simply transfer the example programs over to the phone and they would work...

I'll try this tonight, don't have the data cable with me...

    Thanx again,
    Axel

    Hi, again!

    Here is what I did:
    - read the getting started guide from cover to cover :-)
    - used the file manager to locate "dumbfeedparser.py" and open the file
    - the Python Installer starts -- but hangs
    - same symptom with the python filebrowser.py

I tried it a couple of times, never worked.
Then I copied the dumbfeedparser.pyc file over to the mobile phone (via USB cable again, it's my only connection between PC & mobile):
    - used the file manager again to locate the .pyc file
    - Python installer starts - and crashes immediately
    - same symptom with python's filebrowser.py (taking the whole python environment with it)

This is on a Nokia 6630 with version 1.1.6 of the python package. Originally I had installed Python on the mobile phone, then removed and installed again, this time on the memory card.

What am I missing? Should I reinstall everything? Can't I install a lib without bluetooth/infrared (as far as I understand the docs, it should work as described above).

    Thanx for your input!
    Axel

The 1.1.x series runs the scripts if you start them from outside your inbox. This will be fixed before the next release to match the behaviour of 1.0.1, i.e. to always start the installer.

In the mean time if you are unable to use Bluetooth or infrared for receiving the .py scripts to your inbox, you can install them manually. Simply copy dumbfeedparser.py to \system\libs and the rssreader.py to \system\apps\python\my on whatever drive you installed Python on. You can do this with FExplorer.
