Hi,
Does anyone happen to know if the 3220 has JSR 257? There is an NFC shell available for the 3220 now but to interface with it through Java the phone would have to have JSR 257 - the Contactless Communication API - available.

The shell needs a separate SDK (NFC & RFID SDK) for correct communication. As far as I'm concerend the Nokia 3220 does not yet support JSR275

The SDK is not free. It costs about 5k EUR ... - please obtain it from Nokia Field Force Solutions.
The 3220 does NOT support JSR 257. Right now, the only phone that does is the Nokia 6131 NFC: http://danielsweblog.blogspot.com/20...nfc-phone.htmlOriginally Posted by sporritt
You can develop applications for it using the JSR 257 RI SDK from Nokia:

Do you know if there will be a SDK for 6131 ? Will it defer from JSR 257 ? What will be the other options provided by the SDK ?
Do you know if JSR 257 supports exchange between two NFC devices (peer to peer) ?
Danny thanks for your weblog.
The SDK supports P2P based on NFCIP1. The SDK for the 6131_NFC is an extention pack to the S40 3rd/FP1 SDK. The JSR257 is implemented conform to the JSR257 but with minor changes and editional features. The SDK is currently not available for free download.
Let's say NFCIP-1 is like TCP/IP. I believe Nokia 6131 has its own Transfer Protocol implementation based on NTIP and LLCP for P2P exchange. Let's say it's like FTP.
Now, if I buy a reader like the ADRA reader from ARYGON which is NFCIP-1 compliant. I am note sure I will be able to implement the Transfer Protocol to communicate with the new 6131.
Am I right ? Or maybe I am misconfusing all protocols...
I think Nokia has their own implementation of FTP (because specs have not been released yet by NFC Forum) and if I choose a TCP/IP reader... I will not be able to implement the FTP layer to communicate.
Sorry about protocols comparison, but I am more at ease with Network ISO/OSI Model![]()
Hi tdelazzar,
I have to admit that I have not tested the NFC P2P capability of the 6131 in combination with the other handsets.
When using the P2P 3220 it was like you said: no reader was able to talk the the 3220 in P2P mode. I suppose/hope/belife that the 6131 "speaks" with other devices. As soon as I do have time I'm trying it and post the results.
You're welcome, I hope it was insightful to you.Originally Posted by tdelazzari
I wrote a piece about the SDK you are talking about, which is the JSR 257 RI SDK. It's a Reference Implementation, meaning they've implemented only the mandatory features.
The article: http://danielsweblog.blogspot.com/20...i-sdk-faq.html
So the SDK does absolutely not defer from JSR 257, in fact, the API they provided was used to create the implementation.
The JSR 275 does not, yet, support exchange between two NFC devices.
I expect these features to be added as soon as the Forum specs are released.
geri-m, sounds like you own a 6131 NFC? What's it like?
Please do keep us posted on the 6131 communication issue.
