Location Based SMS, good...

Hi,

can someone please tell me how to sms the location of the cell tower from a basic mobile phone such as Nokia 1100,3310 etc., to a Predefined Mobile number every 15minutes?

Could someone Please send me the Coding for such a Application?

I believe this discussion board may be incorrect one for your request. To me it sounds like you are seeking for help to create a mobile device application. Please post this question to some other discussion board with device side programming expertise here in Forum Nokia.

but what i meant was, the cell tower information[ not gps.....gsm cell tower info ] displayed on the mobile phone must be messaged to a predefined mobile number

i m not using any other device other than my mobile

Yes. I understand what you mean but using PC Connectivity SDK (see Extensive Component Library spec: pg. 516 for CellID and 522 for LAC, pg. 20 about SMS sending) you are not able to do that unless your device is all the time connected with the PC and I thought you'd rather like to have the application running on your mobile device.

heres wat my api is about.

the api will run in my mob and would ms the location to a predefined number[a gsm modem]

can u guide me ,to achieve my goal. ???

i need to know about the feasibility of this api[like will run only on s60 phones or s40phones or anyother phones which can disply cell tower information]

I'm workin on this for quite a long time now, managed to get cell id and other n/w details but unable convert the details as location string.

If i'm not wrong, the name that is displayed on the screen should be stores in a particular memory location / stack, is it possible by anyway to read that particular memory and if so what's the memory address....

lookin desperate for an answer .... any suggestions pls...

I am also working on such an Application...

I'm able to read the complete N/w Info from Phone, but the Cell ID is being retrieved as a "Numeric String" instead "exact Name of Location" as it is displayed on my Phone Screen....

Can anybody tell.... how to convert this Numeric Code to actual Info String ??

Also, the Name of the Service Provider is being retrieved as a Alpha-Numeric String and not the Actual Name as displayed on Phone?

Can anybody Help on this?

Nice to hear from you, the cellid & network information will not solve our problem because to get the location with cellid we need to have a database which maps each cellid/tower/network id with corresponding location name.

i think those details are confidential and in order for us to get it we have to do a field work carrying our laptop and mobile and taking note of the cellid and the name of the location it corresponds to.. and if we start doin it i believe @ the end of the day we'll end up being a survey engg..... lol...

to solve this problem there's a example refered by one of our friend, i tried it with Nokia SDK 3.0 but no avail, lets work together and see if we can solve it...
