Carbide initialization error: JVM terminated

I'm getting initialization errors when trying to start Carbide after following all the instalations instructions. (Carbide Express) What I get is this:

First it happened to me in a machine were I already had SDK and Codewarrior installed, so I just installed Carbide. However, I also tried in another machine that didn't have anything installed, not even java.
Btw, I'm using vmWare to run windows, but I don't think that has anything to do.

I'll appreciate some reply soon.

Well, virtual Windows installations have a nasty habit to cause issues. Did you check: http://discussion.forum.nokia.com/fo...ad.php?t=75059 and the link to Sun there?

Yes, true about the Windows VM. I guess I don't need to say that I wouldn't be forced to use VM if there where any IDE to develop in Symbian for Linux.

Anyway, I did try what is said in that post, as much as I could make sense of it. Unfortunately it didn't solve the problem. Also I'm not sure is about the same, as I didn't have any JRE instalation before in the second machine.
So if anybody has some other suggestion, it would be very welcommed.

What version of VMWare are you using, and what OS is it emulating for you?

I have the same error also, when using the Carbide's jre.

I solve it by creating a batch file to use j2sdk1.4.2_04/jre from Sun:

javaw.exe -Xms40m -Xmx512m -jar C:\Carbide\startup.jar -os win32 -ws win32 -arch 86 -launcher C:\Carbide\eclipse.exe -name Eclipse -showsplash 600 -exitdata 26c_48 -vm C:\Carbide\jre\bin\javaw.exe -vmargs -Xms40m -Xmx521m -jar C:\Carbide\startup.jar

It seem OK, it can start Eclipse with Carbide. But I don't know if it's 100% run correctly or not.

My system is WindowsXP with j2sdk1.4.2_04 installed.

I had a similar problem but with version 1.3 of Carbide. The solution for me was to specifically point to a jvm instead of relying on the JNI magic.

"C:\Program Files\Nokia\Carbide.c++ v1.3\Carbide.c++.1.3.exe" -vm "c:\program files\nokia\Carbide.c++ v1.3\jre\bin\javaw.exe"

i just modified the file Carbide.c++.1.3.ini in the directory of the carbide instalation just decrease the Xmx to asmaller value that is multiple of 128

Yes, that is the recommended workaround. Keep in mind that setting the -Xmx value too low might cause components like the profiler to run out of memory, though.
