Thumbnails problem

Hello...

I tried to search thru this forum, but honestly I got lost.
What I'm trying to do is to display icons of pictures stored on phone. I manage to load jpg file, resize it, but. But it requires lots of memory. I'm dealing with pictures taken by phone camera (3 M pixels), so they take about 12MB memory just to load.
So my question is:
Is there a way to load picture but without requiring so huge amount of memory?

I'm fighting with 3rd edition devices.

i have created thunmbails asynchronously on 2nd ed using GetThumbnailAsyncL. What i found in the 3rd ed sdk's is

CPbkThumbnailManager::GetThumbnailAsyncL

links with PBKVIEW.LIB

and an observer class MPbkThumbnailOperation to know when the thumbnail is complete.

But i did not find any more details.

Anyone already made thumbnails in 3rd edition ??
