CERTIFICATE MANDITORY FOR THEMES?

I have just finished making a theme for the n80 and now for the first time in theme history, the program will not allow me to publish the theme without a certificate.

certificates i have heard, are very expensive and i do not want to buy one. i dont even know where to buy one or who i have to ask for this.

this is very bad for developers who are small individuals or small companies. to make a theme, it should not be required.

is there any way around this so i can continue to make themes for my friends and family and collegues for free?

You may not "wide-spread it" without certification, but you can use it.... you and a well-controlled number of users ... via developer certificate

If I give you one IMEI will you send me a copy of the theme?

For Themes the sis packages only need to be self-signed... this can be done with a tool supplied with the theme package and at no cost. See Appendix A of the S60 Theme Studio Artists Guide 3.0 for more information (It's part of the Theme Studio Download)

Hi all,

In theory, self-signing should work fine as Bill said, but I've got some problems with it on a 3250 which were only solved by signing the theme with a Developer Certificate from Symbian, that can be obtained for free (to 1 IMEI).

For most devices, though, self-signing is ok.

Does Theme for N80 need a Download descriptor for download

I tired to point directly to a SIS file on a URL and download and the installation fail.

The SIS theme files is verified working as it could install if I IRDA it to the phone

If you can install it via IRDA or Bluetooth, but not from the web, you probably have to add the correct mime type (application/vnd.symbian.install) to the server configuration.
