send sms from an app on the phone

Hi!
I am trying to write an application for nokia 6600 in which the user can select some options from a gui. Based on those selections an sms is to be formed and sent to a pre-specified number.
I have working knowledge of c/c++ but no idea of symbian programming.
Any pointers on how to start??

Start with the S60 C++ SDK docs and examples (and the examples here on forum.nokia.com).
