Information about frequency

A friend of mine sent a mobile from New York but it is not working because of a frequency problem. Are there any technical changes that I can make to correct the problem.

HI Naveed,
The phone from North America are of 1900 frequency. They won't work in almost all of Europe and Asia Pac. but would work in some parts of South America excluding Brasil.
Unfortunaltely they come with a different radio frequency circuit so nothing much can be done on those GSM phones.
