Symbian INI Files

Hi everybody

I have a couple of simple questions... and I am shure that there will bee a waterfool of answer ... I'm rather noob for Symbian

1) What means have the INI files used by Symbian application?
2) For what purpose in general an INI File could be used?

Basically, ini files can be used to store settings for later retrieval.
