Network status screens appearing behing application on E61

When we run a Midlet application on the E61 the network status screens (like 'select access point', 'disconnected', etc) all appear behind the application. To see them you have to select the menu button, view the message and then re-select the application.

We have not had any similar issues on other Nokia devices, the application works fine.

Is there something we need to set to ensure that any Series 60 status messages always appear in front of the application screens?

Any help would be much appreciated!
