    Hi,

My company are considering developing an application for our staff.
One of the functions required is to access the phones contacts, images and audio files.

We have not developed a mobile solution before and I had a few questions which I would be grateful if someone could help with:

    1) What is the common o/s for nokia phones? Is this Java as Symbian doesn't seem to cover every phone.

    2) We have a number of Nokia models in use by our staff. Is it possible to write one application to suit all?

    3) Can you access the contacts, images and audio files on a phone through java? Is there a phone o/s api or similar?

Any help on this would be gratefullly appreciated.

    Kind Regards

    Heggem

First of all what you have to see is the java flatform support rather then the OS. I am saying this because at present all Sybian OS nokia phones have java support ( most of them are MIDP 2.0).
If you want to access files in the phone, u must go for phone which does supports JSR-75. So MIDP 2.0 should be ur target. It is present in few models of S60 and S40 devices. Just look for the devices with JSR-75 support.

Thanks Prashant, so what you are saying is that it is possible but not across all phones. We also need to provide this for Samsung, LG and Motorola Phones.

I presume that we would have to develop solutions for batches of phones and not just one Java application for all.

Yes. U r right certainly, u can not have an 'one solution fits all' kind of application. The API implementation would be different across different devices, especially with different brands. So u can think of different applications for different sets of devices.
