    Hi All,
I am a newbie in Location Based Services - Mobile Application Development.
As i come to know - there are few mobile those are supporting this technology till now.
In fact - supported handset are costly.

    My question is:
If i am developing an application with Location API (JSR 179). And want to deploy it on a handset that supports MIDP2.0 and CLDC1.1 and some other JSRs but not JSR 179.

Can i do that by bundling my application with "jsr179.jar"? which i think could be a way.
OR - The Location API should be supported (as implemented) in Handset by the OEM.

    Please Help ...
    Thanks
    - Amin

No u cannot.... Because the device must support the api's. The java api's on top will request the device for further information. The device does not understand those requests... U might not get the compile time error but definitely u get a run time error....

As I understand it, there is no way (as of midp2) of bundling additional API's with your midlet. The only API's that will work are the ones installed by default. So in answer to your question - no I don't think you will be able to use Location API in any other device that supports it as a default.

JSR-179 can be found from S60 3rd ed. devices and a couple S40 3rd ed. devices.

You will find jsr179.jar in the "lib" folder of the Wireless Toolkit 2.5.2.

The specification page for the 5500 Sport has links to appropriate SDKs.

    Hope that helps.

    Hi everyone,

I'm using a Nokia E51 which have the JSR179, but when I try to use it I have problem in the method LocationUpdated().
The parameter location is not valid --> location.isvalid() give me false.

Did you have an explanation for this problem?

My second question is : Is it possible to use the cell-id method with the nokia E51? I think so because in the settings of the phone I can set the location threw "define by the network"...

Thanks a lot for your help
    Best Regards

    Antoine

    Hi everyone!

I finally change my phone for a Nokia N6210 Navigator and I achieve to get some location information.
I switched off all the location methods except network location and I could get a location which is in my neighborhood

My problem is actually to detect which method my phone is using...
I try to use location.getMethod() which give me an int : 655360.
Does anyone know what it means??

    Thanks for your help

    Hi everyone!

To any person who participates in this forum nokia, I would appreciate if you tell me where I can download the API for J2ME JSR-179, or if I can share, for the need to develop my graduation project at the university.

Thank you very much, I hope your help.

The JSR-179 API is part of the regular Java ME (Micro Edition) tools. Click on "Develop" at the top of this page, and proceed from there.
