    Hi,

I installed carbide express on my laptop (with XP SP 2), then installed SDK and then Active Perl. When I tried to launch the IDE, I got the infamous "JVM terminated" messgae. After reading in the forum I installed the JRE 1.4.2_11 and copied its bin and lib folders to the jre in the carbide folder.
I managed to launch carbide this time but the warm elevation feeling I had quickly change to huge dissapointment. I got a message "unable to read workbench state. Workbench UI will be reset" then carbide opened but it was all grey and I can't do anything. For example, File-->New shows "No applicable Items".

What should I do with this strange problems?
Please note that I read many posts and yes, I looked at the release notes, but, there is no hint for the cause and soloution to the problem.

    Thanks in advance,
    Imzadi

Remove/uninstall the JRE, Perl, sdk, and carbide from your computer.

Then try to install in this manner:
    1. install JRE
    2. install ActivePerl
    3. install SDK
    4. install Carbide c++

    good luck

    Hi,

I had a minor breakthrough. I managed to open the C++ perspective. However, when I try to open the Symbian perspective I get a message "problem opening perpective 'com.symbian.cdt.SymbianPerspective'"

    Any ideas?

Have you reinstalled all of the component?
Please try to reinstalled all of the component first.

I think your carbide installation is corrupt.

Most likely your workspace is corrupted. It could be that you do not have access to the workspace directory or the file "workspace\.metadata\.plugins\org.eclipse.ui.workbench\workbench.xml" could be corrupted or similar.

    You could:
    - Check the current workspace setting and check the directory, does it exist and do you have access?
    - Delete the file listed above
    - Change to a fresh workspace

    Thanks for your answer Mitts.

Unfortunatelly, it didn't help. I have access to my workspace, I deleted the files and switched workspaces but that didn't work either.
Eventually, I copied the workbench.xml file from my working application to the laptop. The eclipse now opens nicely but when trying to create new Symbian project, I get the following message:

The selected wizard could not be started.
    Reason:
Plug-in com.symbian.cdt.project was unable to load class com.symbian.cdt.project.ui.NewSymbianProjectWizard.
Any suggesstions how to proceed from here?

guys, I'm really desperate here. I really need to install carbide on my laptop but it doesn't work. Mitts, can you think of something else? I can't believe carbide doesn't work on laptops.
