flash lite 2.0 upgrade possible?

I have a question about the upgrade of the flash lite player.
The N73 is shipped with the flash lite 1.1 player. If flash lite 2.0 is released for this device, will it be possible to upgrade the player?

Any information on this will really help. Thanks in advance.

I don't now if that will be offered as part of firmware upgrade by Nokia,
however you can always try to use FlashLite 2.0 developer version I think:

which is standalone player tied with device IMEI number provided during purchase,
Notice:
however before doing that contact with Nokia customer support (aviable via your country nokia web page or operator web page) to discuss its effect on pre-installed FlashLite 1.1 plugin on your device - because preinstalled plugin servers different contetn: as stadanlone plugin and as embedded in-browser plugin - FL 2.0 developer is only standlaone plugin version,
also ask them for plans abote FlashLite update (if any) via firmware upgrade,

I don't have experience how to update plugin with development version - i'm using solely FL 2.0 developer pluing on device which came without FlashLite 1.0/1.1 preinstalled,

I don't think this is possible. Firstly, Adobe don't provide a FL2 player for S60 3rd edition.

Apart from that the player that Nokia create for s60 is likely to be integrated on a OS level, so I imagine you'd have to upgrade your OS from s60 3rd edition to s60 3rd edition FP1. I doubt you'd be offered that as a firmware upgrade or as a simple FL2 installer.

yeah its a shame that FL2 won't be around for a bit yet, means there is still a need to hold onto 176x208 res phones, which is difficult when you've tasted QVGA.

This means some trouble for our plans, since we need to provide the content in two versions. One for FL1.1 and one for the FL2 :-(
And working with FL1.1 feels like stone age.

3.7.1 Is Macromedia Flash Lite 2.0 from Adobe going to be available on all S60 3rd Edition, Feature Pack 1, devices?
No. Macromedia Flash Lite 2.0 from Adobe is an optional component of the S60 platform and may not be implemented on all devices. However, consumers can install Flash Lite 2.0 on devices that ship without it.
A Flash Lite Framework API, which allows developers to interact with the Flash Lite 2.0 player, is present as part of the S60 platform. However, it works only on a device that has the optional Flash Lite 2.0 player, either as an original component or installed by the device’s owner.

Hi Peter,

Nice find, iteresting that users will be able to download. I guess that would allow Nokia to offer it as an optional extra to operators whilst not fragmenting the platform too much because users could always download direct from Nokia if the operator opts out.


@ Frank, you are right FL1.1 is a nightmare to code. I have been switching between 1.1 and 2.x for over 2 years now and it gets harder and harder to go back to 1.1. You can implement a psuedo OO style to 1.1 apps but there are so many little niches that need hacks - memory management, text maangement etc.
