can some one tell me do i need to set the default SDK, using the devices commmand, while i work with the carbide IDE and S60 SDKs ?

I think not, if you only use the IDE. But if you use command line tools then you need to set it.

Small correction, if you use Carbide.c++, your default SDK must be set up to point to an existing SDK, otherwise there will be an error. Once that is done you do not need to change it nor will the setting have any effect on what you do. See Carbide.c++ release notes.
