Will an HTTP app work on most phones in the US?

I have an application that uses HttpConnection to connect to a web site and send some information to a server. What percentage of people in the US would have phones that would support this? I use T-Mobile and I noticed for instance that HTTP calls only seem to work with their T-Mobile Internet plan and not their normal web plan. Is it going to be the same for most providers (having to sign up for a special plan to get HTTP calls to work?).

Do most phones support it in general?

I do not know what is the percentage of the phone subscribers in U.S. who have a data plan, but as both T-Mobile and Cingular has more restrictive security domain policies for midlets, you need to sign you midlets for HTTP connections to work.

What do you mean by sign the midlet?


*EDIT* Oh I just read about them. I am using MIDP 1.0 anyway, so I can't do signing. It will work on T-Mobile without signing, the user just gets prompted.
