newbie problem J2ME/socket/connect times out on some networks

Please help.

I'm new to J2ME but need to release my midlet for any phone/net (UK only), and am quickly having to find out lots of things about mobiles I didn't really want to know...

I suspect it is connected(pun) with configuration settings or access points, can someone point me at some documentation for Nokia to set these up. It's very hit and miss at the moment, so I need to RTFM before I bore you with the details...

Access Point Name configuration
that's for S40 devices,
S60 devices apn configuration is strighforward, also there is a WizzardSetting application which do that automatically including settings for j2me,
