custom list application

well there is sth wired happening with me ..??
i've found an example to make a custom list, and i've used this example as a guide -http://developers.sun.com/techtopics/mobility/midp/ttips/customcomponent/index.html-

now the example gives the following exception in a sony ericsson z520i " java.lang.NullPointerException" .. wihle it runs fine in a Nokia 6600 and in Nokia 6111
i can't move through the list ..??

is custumItem suppored by all mobile phones? cause i need to have an implicite list and a textBox at the same screen ..??
