Carbide getting started questions

Hi
I installed the trial version Carbide for C++ ,
I have some questions , maybe you could help me (even with just some of them):
1) I installed the 3rd edition FP1 SDK -
does using it with Carbide give me the option to create applications for all Series 60 devices , including those with Symbian 9.0 ?

2) What should I do in order to make a Carbide project from an existing application ? (lets say my own app or an example application from earlier SDK's)

3) Why does the "open project" option disabled? how do I open a project?

4) How do I build a project to create a SIS file? (what used to be build armi urel build in my previous S60 SDK)

On the Welcome page there are a set of tutorials that will walk you through most of your questions (Click tutorial on the Welcome page, found from Help).

As for SDK, most of the time there will be issues with targeting phones based on earlier SDK with a later on. In particular, your setup will not allow you do target S60 2.x phones without adding at least one 2.x SDK.

1/ Yes

2/ "File>Import>Symbian bld.inf"; for earlier SDKs you need to change the source code significanlty (more info on nokia/symbian web pages)

3/ I don't know - maybe you still haven't any project in workspace??

4/ Select project node you wnat to build on "C++ projects" view, then in "Project>Active Build configuration" select the tagret and build the project. SIS file will be created.

One of the problems I still have is trying to use carbide with older SDK's of series 60.
I downloaded 2 SDK's of Series60 2nd edition (WINS and CW) ,
but I can't find any reference to any SDK other than the 3rd edition - not in the build properties or in the Project->Active Buid Configuration or anywhere else ...
So I can't compile and run app for S60 2nd edition via carbide though I understand it should be possible.

Can you please help me with this issue ?

Hi,

actually I'm not sure how this works, because when you create new project you can select one SDK it will be build against, but if you try the way with import bld.inf you can select all SDKs and then it's probably possible to compile againts any SDK.

Anyway - you can create couple of projects one for each SDKs having separated the project metadata from source files...

Thank you for your help.
I managed to use the CW 2nd edition SDK with Carbide.

Now I have the following problem (after doing tests and searches about it) -
I cant run a Multi lang app(tried the multilang example):
After build (for emulator) with no errors ,
* The app is shown in the app menu with no caption ("qtn_app_caption_string" is shown instead of its value).
* The app can't be opened.
* No MultiLang.r01 (and 2,3) are created.
* I get the following warning - importer limitation - MMP keyword ignored:LANG

Any ideas how to solve this?

Check the release notes:

Can only build resources for one language - LANGUAGE_sc by default | Change the language macro in the Resource Compiler project preference. You can only build for one language at a time.

So Carbide does not support multi lang ...
I hope this will change in the next release.

by the way , does Code warrior support multi lang ?
