Please help regarding the understanding of the different files

Hello friends,

This is Jigish here. I am very new person in the development of the symbian applications .
So, can anyone explain me which tools I need to install for programming?
I am going to work in visual studio.net 2003. So for this which sdks and which other supporting softwares I need to install. So I can start my work.
Is PERL is necessary to install? If yes than which version I need to install?

I saw it once in the software but there are so many files like .mmp,.rss,.pkg...etc...

So, please explain me the usage of each and every files.

Please Please help me.....

Welcome!!!

Decide your platform to work with: Is it S60 2nd edition or S60 3rd edition....?

Then after do the following steps:
1) Download SDK from following link:
http://www.forum.nokia.com/info/sw.n...16-3.0-mr.html

2) As you want to work with visual studio.net 2003, you can use Carbide.Vs as your development tool.

3) You shall also require Active Perl.

4) See the examples from SDK installtion path:

5) Start coding

If you own a particular Series 60 device, you might want to check which SDK does it require on www.forum.nokia.com/devices.
