Geometric Shapes Unicode Problem

Dear All,

This is my first Participate in this forum, so hi to every one and i hope all success to all forum users.

My question is why the Geometric Shapes that have Unicode range from U25A0 To U25FF (▼ ▲ ...) doesn't appear on the J2ME Application when I install it on Mobiles such as Nokia 6630 it's appeared as "▭" but in the Emulation appeared correctly ???

If the phone doesn't have that font then you won't be able to use it. And the squares appear when you try to draw a character that the font doesn't have a font for.

You can only know it by checking. As far as I know, there is no list that lists all the devices and all their built-in fonts and which glyphs each font file contains. It would be nice if there was, though.

I don't know how you could install and use different fonts with J2ME, so I leave that for someone else to answer.

You can't install new fonts with MIDP.

If you're using a Canvas and not any high-level UI screens then you could implement your own bitmap font instead. But if all you want to do is display a few geometric shapes you could just add them as Images and use drawImage() instead.

That would be pretty much impossible. The same device sold in different countries will probably have different fonts installed.

Thank you agian shmoove, did you know that i'm using these charachter in the Ticker component and it takes String Object only.

i tried to inherit it to change it to take a graph but it was a final class

i think i should create bitmap font and use it but i don't now how, if any one here know how plz told me since i'm new in J2ME programin.

If you use a bitmap font you won't be able to use it with Ticker because that's a high-level UI component. You would need to create your own custom-made ticker that can be drawn on a Canvas.

For an example of bitmap fonts you can check out MWT. It's LGPL.
