S60 API Partnering Program

Forum Nokia eStore now has S60 API Partnering cases available.

S60 API Partnering request purchasing is enabled for all developers through Forum Nokia PRO eStore. In order to apply for an internal S60 API, you need to purchase and submit a new support case called API Partnering from the Forum Nokia PRO eStore (FN PRO eStore registration is free).

When requesting API Partnering for e.g S60 3.0 platform, the developer must specify a target device to which they want the API. Nokia verifies that the requested API works in the target device by testing and verifying it. If the developer wishes to use requested API in an another same platform release device they have to test and verify the API functionality or request new API Partnering for new platform-terminal (e.g 3.0-N93) combination when Nokia tests and verifies this as requested.

Steps for developers/3rd party companies in S60 API Partnering Case

1. The developer/3rd party company will purchase an API Partnering case
2. The developer/3rd party company will fill in an API Partnering case
3. The developer/3rd party company will sign either a Limited License Agreement or a Limited License Frame Agreement
4. The developer/3rd party company will wait for decision from Cross Nokia API Forum *
5. The developer/3rd party company will sign the Supplement Agreement
6. The developer/3rd party company will receive the internal API file

Remember, there are risks in using undocumented API’s and we expect anyone that uses those API’s to be aware of and accept the risks and possible consequences.

How long did the whole process take about? weeks? months?
I have been waiting for a week just to sign the Limited License Agreement.

Whould be great to inform developers/3rd party company about the time taken from the various API Partnering steps.

1. The developer/3rd party company will purchase an API Partnering case

(Immediatly)

3. The developer/3rd party company will sign either a Limited License Agreement or a Limited License Frame Agreement

A. We have LLA and LLFA templates available and can be immediately sent to the 3rd party company for signing. However, if a 3rd party company wants to make changes to the agreements, then the legal department will have to review the changes.

A. Cross Nokia API Forum roughly has meeting once every two weeks. Depending on the sensitivity of the API that is being requested, internal IPR check may be needed.

Q. The developer/3rd party company will sign the Supplement Agreement

A. The supplement will list the exact libraries and files that will be delivered. This will be send to the developer company immediately after the decision is made by Cross Nokia API Forum

A. Once the supplement is signed, the internal API package will be sent via PGP encrypted or through our secure web site within days.

Q. How many APIs are in? and What kind of them?

A. We cannot list all the API to the public. The general steps for someone to request an internal API are:
First you submit a Support Request to our Professional Support page to see for a particular functionality. You don't need to know the exact API for the functionality. Just tell us what you want to do. Our experts will investigate and see if there is an open API for the functionality, or a workaround. If an internal API is needed and exists, out expert will advice you buy the internal API. Your should receive credit back for the Support Request if no workaround is available.

My guess they want to add it to a built in apps, as copying gizmo contacts seems to be latest fad.

Partnering with API aids me in further developing robust e-commerce solutions and secured data applications for my Apache Web server platform. API continues to demonstrate its commitment and leadership in the Linux community.. It depends on what you need it for, but I'm absolutely sure it's worth it!

Hello guys,
two points:
1) API partnering doesn't provide any technical investigations, it's just the politics of getting the API partnering approval.
2) If you need some feature and you don't know how to implement it, always go to technical support: http://www.forum.nokia.com/main/tech...ort/index.html

This is not to make anyone's life complicated, just to optimize our services.

The API partnering service you can use directly to for example renewing the LLA for already partnered API.

Unfortunately Symbian APIs we can't partner, nor can we state what APIs are owned by us or Symbian (as we can't even say the names of internal APIs). We are working to improve this situation and have a couple of suggestion to move forward with.
