Service commands can be used to get information from the cell - for example the "own number" of the phone. As this is operator and cell dependent the result is not always reliable.
The 88 command can get the phone number in the cell.
The simplist way is:
- Input 88 in desktop
- Press dial key
The phone will display the service reply as shown below, if it is available:
MSISDN:0123456789
Note:MSISDN is the abbreviation of Mobile Subscriber International ISDN/PSTN Number.
The Messages function has special item named Service Commands,user can use it getting the same result by
- Messages->Service Commands
- Input 88 in Textbox
- Press send or dial key
If the mobile device/cell does not support this kind of service,it returns UNKNOWN APPLICATION.

Hi,
I tried this with my Nokia N8 and it din't work or it is more related to service provider? Can you please tell me with which device you tried the commands. Can you give a link where can I get more about service commands?girishpadia 08:00, 18 November 2011 (EET)
Hamishwillee - Using the ArticleMetaData
Hi r60600
Specifically, the ArticleMetaData template on the page has space where you can record which devices you actually tested this against and know it to work. There might also be a phone network dependency you could enter. Lastly, as Girish says, can you provide a good link to service commands because not everyone might know what these are.
Regards
