Overview
The installation of the S60 3rd Edition SDK fails on some Windows XP systems under certain conditions.
Symptoms
The installation process stops after a short while or the installer exits without giving an error message.
Description
A number of developers have reported that the installation of the S60 3rd Edition SDK fails on some Windows XP systems under certain conditions.
The issue cannot be reproduced on the majority of systems, and the actual cause has not yet been identified. However, there is a workaround that seems to solve the installation problems in most cases.
Solution
If you have a problem matching the above symptoms while installing the S60 3rd Edition (Maintenance Release or FP1) SDK, try the following:
- Extract the SDK .zip file to a temporary directory.
- Create an empty file called "S60_3rd.xml", and save the file into the directory where the installation files are extracted.
- Double-click on Setup.exe to start the installation.
