Information regarding video playback and streaming in 3rd edition devices
Article Metadata
In S60 3rd Edition and S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1 devices, the video playback and streaming will be taken care by RealOnePlayer and it uses the ROP plug-in for its underlying engine implementation. So when video playback/streaming is done using CVideoPlayerUtility or CDocumentHandler APIs, the RealPlayer will be utilized by default.
But in S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2 devices, the video playback/streaming implementation is slightly different from 3.0 and 3.1 platform. The video player will be the same RealOne player, where as the underlying ROP engine implementation has been replaced by the Helix DNA client.
However there will not be any difference externally when using either CVideoPlayerUtility or CDocumentHandler for video playback/RTSP streaming purpose, as the same RealOneplayer will be used externally by default, while the playback part will be taken care by the Helix DNA client beneath the player.
