Overview

MIDlets which have been backed up or installed to a memory card or a mass memory prior to a firmware update may not be reinstalled after the update.

Description

For some S60 5th Edition devices, the MIDlets which have been originally installed on a device's memory card or mass memory drive prior to a firmware update may not be reinstalled after the update. Alternatively, the same result can be achieved on some devices for MIDlets installed to mass memory, when the user performs a memory card backup, and after the firmware update the backup restore tries to reinstall the MIDlet.

How to reproduce

For the memory card and mass memory use case:

  1. Install a MIDlet on a memory card or a mass memory drive.
  2. Update the device with new firmware by using Nokia Ovi Suite.
  3. Try to reinstall the MIDlet. For the affected devices, the reinstallation fails.

For the memory card backup use case:

  1. Install a MIDlet on a mass memory drive.
  2. Perform a memory card backup by using File Manager (located in the Applications folder).
  3. Update the device with new firmware by using Nokia Ovi Suite.
  4. Restore the memory card backup by using File Manager.
  5. Try to reinstall the MIDlet. For the affected devices, reinstallation fails.

Solution

After updating the device with new firmware, perform a factory reset for the device by pressing *#7370# on the phone call screen.
