Maemo Base Port

Jump to: navigation, search

A long-term goal is to evolve Maemo into a direction where it is easier to port it to new chipsets and HW environments. The following document has been created to facilitate this goal. It describes what is needed to port Maemo to a new chipset in the form of technical requirements. The document is not directly linked to any exact Maemo release, but in practice it assumes roughly Maemo 6 level SW architecture and functionality with some portability related differences. The document also refers to a setup where the porting work is a combined effort by Nokia and the chipset vendor. However, it is also applicable to other types of porting and product creation related co-operation models. Outside the porting context, the document also serves as a closer look at the contents of the lowest Maemo architecture layer. Note that the document is not intended to be used as any kind of Maemo related programming guide or reference and is about ongoing research.
