Description

Starting from S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2, security prompting has been enhanced by allowing the end user to define how often he or she wishes to get the security prompts during the application runtime. This enhancement has been adopted by certain S60 3rd Edition, Feature Pack 2 and S60 5th Edition devices.

When the end user defines the Ask once for session option for the messaging function group by using the prompt enhancement, the application is set to use the Always allowed option instead.

How to reproduce

1. Implement a test application using, for example, the code snippet available in this article: Wrong exception thrown when sending SMS messages that are too long using Java ME (Known Issue).

   Edit the String value for the variable mese to be shorter than in the example.

2. Send an SMS. Set Ask once for session when the prompt enhancement pops up and queries the preferred prompt option.
3. Close the application after setting the prompt option and sending the SMS.
4. Relaunch the test application and repeat step 2. No preferred permissions will be asked for this session.

Solution

This issue is expected to be fixed in future S60 5th Edition devices.
