WLAN power saving
Article Metadata
Example: The frequency of scanning is having major impact to terminals stand-by times, so it's important to avoid performing unnecessary scans.
Main tools to improve WLAN power efficiency is on the network side.
- Office WLAN network should support Unscheduled Automatic Power Save Delivery (U-APSD) support. U-APSD is a power save scheme optimized for real-time applications transferring full-duplex data over WLAN.
- Should use the proxy ARP to help to limit the bandwidth lost to multicast and broadcast traffic.
Always-on applications have naturally big impact to power consumption, for example, push email and SIP/VoIP.
Important thing is to avoid frequent scanning, use correct DSCP (DiffServ Code Points) settings. WLAN is also very fast link so applications should try to send/receive large amounts data to reduce per byte overhead
