Xamarin allows developers to create apps in C# and .NET, and create "native appearing" code on all supported platforms, and also to call native code. There is an excellent overview of the concept in the document Building Cross Platform Applications.
API Features:
Licensing is commercial, though there is a free option suitable for basic evaluation.

Hi Aady
Did a quick subedit - again, no need for introduction heading if everything is introductory. In terms of content I've added a line on licensing as this is of interest to most developers.
This is a useful enough index to the tool for people who haven't heard about it before. What I'd really love though is a hard core technical article showing how well it works with a real example ... and also highlighting any disadvantages, shortcomings.
Thanks!

Aady - Thanks Hamish
Will try to write a first getting started simple program article for this in sometime. And the same for rest of my intro articles. Thanks for your reviews.

Hamishwillee - Thanks
Looking forward to them. Perhaps when they exist we should link from this overview article?
Thanks

Aady - Yes you are right
This one can then be a 'kinda' HUB for the related topics.
