Category:Symbian
This category is for articles about the Symbian platform itself, or acts as a tag to convey that a topic is "Symbian-specific" (e.g. a Category:Qt topic with Category:Symbian only applies to the Symbian platform). If you're interested in the Symbian native development framework see Category:Symbian C++.
Symbian was the first platform specifically developed for smartphones - it started the smartphone revolution and until 2011 was Nokia's main smartphone platform. It is still an extremely popular and efficient smartphone platform, sold in more locations than any other mobile OS. For more information about the platform and native development framework see Symbian C++ (static site).
The recommended development framework for Symbian is Qt (Qt Quick). Development is also supported using native Symbian C++,Symbian Web Runtime, Python and Java ME, to name just a few.
App Launcher Icon Competition (10 Nov 2011):
We're having a competition between November 14th to 30th to celebrate the launch of Nokia's new icon styles and templates. All you have to do is use our new toolkits to create a compelling new app launcher icon for your Series 40, Symbian, or Nokia N9 app. We're going to be awarding a number of new Nokia N9 mobile devices, which is a pretty cool prize for doing something that every great app has to have anyway!
