RSWInstSilentLauncher cannot be used for installing or uninstalling Symbian Web Runtime apps (Known Issue)

The Software Installer Launcher API can be used for silent installation/uninstallation of SISX packages and MIDlets. However, silent installation/uninstallation of Symbian Web Runtime apps hangs the installer indefinitely.

Description

RSWInstSilentLauncher is the client side handle to access SW Installer UI services for silent installation/uninstallation. The methods SilentInstall() and SilentUninstall() are used for silent installation/uninstallation.

Similarly, silent uninstallation can be done using the SilentUninstall() method by passing the appropriate UID and the MIME type.

The same is not applicable, however, in the case of widgets. Silent installation/uninstallation of widgets hangs the installer indefinitely.

Solution

Currently no solution exists. However, this issue is expected to be fixed in future firmware releases for 5th Edition devices.
