Overview

The selection key (rocker center key) does not work for certain MIDlets in N97.

Description

In N97, the rocker key on the left of the QWERTY keyboard enables four directions, left, right, up, and down, and includes a selection key in the middle (center rocker key) for making selections or doing gaming actions.

However, in the first commercial firmware versions for N97, the selection key is not mapped to perform these selection and gaming functions (FIRE game action, for example) for certain MIDlets in N97.

Solution

This issue is expected to be fixed in future firmware updates for N97.

For the affected firmware versions, instead of using the selection key, use 'j' or 'space' keys instead of the selection key when using the QWERTY keyboard.

When using the application in portrait mode (non-QWERTY keyboard mode), using the onscreen keypad resolves the issue.

Applications that listen for the low-level key code of -5 when targeting selection actions will work OK, as normally the selection key in N97 sends the correct key code (-5).
