Overview

Unicode characters are not supported in messages that are sent from the WRT widget.

Description

SMS messages can be sent from the widget, either by using the JavaScript Messaging Service API or the SMS scheme handler. Neither of these methods supports Unicode characters in the message body.

When a message with Unicode characters is sent with the Messaging Service API, the receiver will see a series of question marks instead of actual characters. The Messaging Service API can only handle default SMS alphabets (ETSI GSM 03.38).

In the case of the SMS scheme handler, the native message editor is populated with incorrect characters. The SMS scheme handler can only handle the basic ASCII character set.
