Jan 2012

Developed for Windows Phone, this colourful application provides users with weather forecasts for hundreds of worldwide destinations. Users can view hourly, daily and weekly forecasts, or watch a series of short regional video clips.

Visuals

  • The user interface is fun, colourful, high contrast, and well aligned with the AccuWeather.com brand.
  • Photo realistic illustrations enhance each weather forecast panel or view.
  • The application uses the native Segoe font, ensuring a clean, light, and open look.
  • Buttons and controls are large, easy to manipulate and follow the default Metro UI guidelines.

Interaction

  • Users can navigate between the app's six primary panels using a swipe gesture.
  • Certain panels contain a static layout, while others include a scrollable vertical list. Users can reach additional content by tapping each of the list elements.
  • An illustrated snapshot of today's forecast is also displayed in a persistent panel above each view.
  • Users can navigate back from all views using the dedicated hardware key.

Overall

  • Users can search for the nearest city using geolocation, or specify the name of their chosen city.
  • Each city forecast includes a panel containing a location map which can be viewed in further detail using Bing Maps.
  • Advertising is well implemented and doesn't detract from the content.
