The Weather Channel

Developed for Series 40, this simple yet elegant full-touch application gives users access to a rich and detailed selection of forecasts, radar maps, and severe weather information.

Visuals

  • User interface colours are bright, high contrast, and well aligned with the Weather Channel brand.
  • Icons are designed in accordance with the Series 40 icon guidelines.
  • Simple, yet highly detailed illustrations are provided to indicate weather conditions.
  • Subtle zebra striping is used within list views, to improve a user’s ability to scan the content.

Interaction

  • Users can navigate between the application's three primary sections using the category bar. Additional choices are displayed in the category popup, which can be accessed by clicking an ellipsis icon located on the category bar.
  • Weather forecasts are presented in a scrollable vertical list.
  • Backstepping is intuitive using the back button positioned at the bottom right of each view.

Overall

  • An embedded map enables users to select one of six map layers. These layers superimpose additional data such as temperature, cloud cover and a radar information.
